Dressmaking is in my blood.
I was born in Scotland & raised for my first year by my paternal grandmother. Then leaving at the age of 1 yr, my family immigrated to New Zealand. Sewing was in my blood, my Mother taught me how to sew "Old School style" from a early age, as it was in her linage, being passed down from her Granny. My Mum made all her clothes & all of ours, it was pretty exciting shopping for fabric on Friday nights & sewing on the weekend with her watching old movies. She would tell us stories of what life was like for her as a child in Scotland.
My Grandmother born in Ireland in 1894, she was a young girl during the Potato famine era. She was the only one of her large family to survive. She was sent to Greenock, Scotland at the age of 12 yrs old & on that boat was my grandfather, William Graham, then 14 yrs old. They never meet until a few years later but shared the same hardship, which made them both very strong people with the kindest of hearts.
I was heavily influenced by my wonderful grandmother, even though we never met again. She passed away when I was 7 yrs old but I have always felt her near.
Bridget Bonnar lived through the era's of fashion that I LOVE, embracing women's body shapes, classic lines, unique timeless fashion. I am inspired everyday by her strength & courage & LOVE.
What makes Bridget Bonnar garments different? I hear people say "what I want isn't out there" - Sleeves - Length - curve for my body shape - unique - classic & timeless.
From our Aterations department where we Tailor all types of garments & seeing through fast fashion that construction really doesn't have fitted shape I decided to make garments to fit all women's body shapes while keeping with my passion in designing classic timeless garments to be worn in every season year after year.
